Set of Six Solid Mahogany Dining Chairs, English Regency Style, Early 19th Century, Carver Chairs

Homogeneous set of four chairs and two armchairs, known as “Carver chairs,” intended for a dining room. English work from the first quarter of the 19th century, representative of the Late Georgian period and Regency aesthetic, circa 1810–1820. Entirely made of solid mahogany, a noble wood species characterized by a warm, dense and deep patina typical of fine British cabinetmaking.

The silhouette is defined by great simplicity and a striking modernity of line. The openwork back features a curved horizontal rail, of “bar back” or “rail back” design, shaped to follow the ergonomics of the back. The console-form armrests are profiled, curved and gently descend onto the front supports, bringing strong visual fluidity and a notable lightness to the structure.

The contrasting base emphasizes the dynamism of the ensemble. The front uprights are straight, richly turned, punctuated with raised rings and finished with tapered profiles. The rear uprights are arched in the so-called “sabre” form, ensuring the sweep of the continuous line from the backrest to the floor and guaranteeing excellent stability of the seat.

Fixed inset seat with traditional “stuffover” upholstery, non-removable construction. Currently covered in damask-type upholstery fabric, decorated with green and beige stripes featuring classical floral and geometric motifs. The edge is finished with piped braid and concealed upholstery tacks.

Very good state of preservation. The wood shows light surface wear and minor scratches consistent with normal use. Slight looseness on one chair. The seats were restored in the early 2000s. The fabrics are clean, with a few superficial stains. Re-covering could be considered for a stylistic update.
