Notes : The flowering plum branch occupied an important place in the samurai imagination. Blossoming at the end of winter, often while the cold was still present, it symbolized resilience, courage and the ability to overcome adversity. Its delicate flowers, appearing before those of other trees, also evoked the warrior's determination and nobility of spirit in the face of hardship. For the samurai, the flowering plum tree represented elegance combined with inner strength, reminding us that a true fighter had to cultivate virtue and discipline as much as martial skill.
