Small Enameled Porcelain Vase By Pierre Devie, Dated 1983
Small Enameled Porcelain Vase by Pierre Devie, dated 1983
Height: 9.5 cm
Charming small enameled porcelain vase by the French ceramic artist Pierre Devie, signed and dated 1983 underneath.
Its flattened, harmonious shape is enhanced by a remarkable enamel decoration combining deep blues, purples, pinks and soft whites. The colours unfold in broad cloud-like bands enriched by crystalline and speckled effects, creating a lively surface that changes constantly with the light.
The technical quality of the glazing is particularly striking. The enamels seem to float across the porcelain, alternating glossy and satin areas in a subtle interplay of textures. Despite its modest size, the vase possesses a strong visual presence and naturally draws the eye.
A fine example of Pierre Devie's work from the 1980s, a period during which he developed a highly personal decorative language based on colour experimentation and sophisticated glaze effects.
Very good condition.
Incised signature "DEVIE" and date "83" underneath.
Gallery Note
Some ceramics impress through scale, others through technical virtuosity. This small vase belongs to a rarer category: objects that seem to radiate far beyond their actual dimensions.
The form is simple and restrained, yet the enamels create a landscape of colour that can evoke clouds, minerals, or atmospheric phenomena. Whether displayed in a cabinet, on a shelf, or among a larger collection, it immediately commands attention.
A modestly sized piece with a remarkably strong decorative presence.
