Neo-classical Portico / Mantel Clock In Ebonized Wood And Gilt Bronze
Elegant architectural mantel clock in ebonized wood richly adorned with gilt bronze mounts in the Neo-Classical taste. The circular pewter dial with Roman numerals is framed by an elaborate scrolling gilt bronze surround. The front is decorated with a finely cast floral garland tied with ribbons, while the upper section is crowned with an antique-inspired urn featuring delicately pierced handles, directly recalling the Louis XVI vocabulary reinterpreted during the Empire and Restoration periods.
The Paris movement with silk-thread suspension is in working order and the striking mechanism functions correctly. The key is present. The glazed rear door allows the mechanism and pendulum to remain visible. The overall decorative quality is particularly appealing, with a refined contrast between the deep black finish of the case and the soft glow of the gilt bronze mounts.
Very well preserved overall condition, with a coherent patina and light traces of age contributing to the charm and authenticity of the piece.

Gallery Note
We are especially drawn here to the restrained architectural character of the case, almost austere in its geometry, beautifully balanced by the richness of the gilt bronze decoration. The antique urn crowning the piece gives the clock an elegant and theatrical silhouette. This clock perfectly evokes those refined early 19th century interiors in which the antique taste inherited from the late 18th century evolved toward stronger and more monumental lines. A decorative piece of remarkable presence, equally attractive from the front and in profile thanks to its extensive bronze work.
