A charming polychrome faience jardinière decorated with scenes inspired by the famous Bayeux Tapestry.
Signed “Bayeux Brenner” with mold number 63, allowing the piece to be dated between 1918 and 1928.
A fine example of early 20th-century Norman ceramics.
The shape, raised on four small feet and fitted with two side handles, highlights both the functional and decorative nature of the piece.
The decoration is enhanced with gilt highlights, applied through a third low-temperature firing, creating subtle metallic reflections now gently aged over time.
Technique:
Faience with enamel decoration and gilt highlights, executed in three successive firings (bisque, decoration, gilding).
Condition:
Very good overall condition.
