Gallery's view:
This large coat stand is an authentic production from Gebrüder Thonet, founded by Michael Thonet, renowned for perfecting the steam-bending technique that revolutionized European furniture in the 19th century. An iconic model in European cafés and bistros, this type of coat stand has become one of Thonet’s classic designs. Frequently copied, it remains difficult to match in terms of the quality of the bentwood, structural solidity, and elegant silhouette of the original pieces.
Time has beautifully aged the wood, producing a deep patina with subtle reddish highlights that emphasize the curves and showcase the fine craftsmanship. Both functional and decorative, this coat stand would make an excellent addition to an entryway, shop, restaurant, or any interior that appreciates historic furniture and 19th-century design.
