Ormolu Mantel Clock With Bust Of Homer – 19th Century
Important 19th-century ormolu mantel clock surmounted by a bust of Homer, rendered in a refined neoclassical spirit. The ancient poet, identifiable by his beard and headband, is depicted with a strong presence and a dignified, introspective expression. The case, of architectural form, rests on a base adorned with stylized motifs inspired by Antiquity. The circular dial, finely chased, features Roman numerals and a guilloché center, framed by a sober and rhythmic decorative border. Signed on the dial. Complete silk suspension movement (pendulum and suspension present), requiring restoration. We can arrange servicing upon request.

Gallery view:
This clock immediately appeals through its balance between sculpture and architecture. The contrast between the dark-toned bust and the satin gilding of the base gives it a strong, almost contemporary graphic presence. Beyond its function, it stands as a true cabinet piece, halfway between a learned tribute to Antiquity and a decorative object of character.
