Napoleon III Liquor Cabinet
Elegant Napoleon III period tantalus, dating from the second half of the 19th century. This refined casket features delicate marquetry in burr walnut and lemonwood, creating a restrained yet harmonious decorative pattern. The lid is adorned with a brass and mother-of-pearl medallion, left blank and unengraved, either allowing for later personalization or preserving its original untouched state.
Opening with its key, the interior reveals a finely cut crystal service signed by Saint-Louis, comprising decanters and glasses delicately decorated and enhanced with gilding. Some glasses have partially lost their gilding, most likely due to earlier replacements over time, a common occurrence for objects originally intended for regular use.
With its surprisingly restrained design for the Napoleon III period, this tantalus stands out for its discreet elegance, allowing it to blend equally well in both classic and contemporary interiors.
The quality of craftsmanship evokes the productions of leading Parisian makers such as Jean‑Pierre Tahan, renowned for this type of luxurious object.
A decorative yet functional piece, illustrating the refinement of 19th-century tableware.
Very good overall condition. Please note a reinforcement to the base of the casket, invisible once the glass holder is in place.
