He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts deRouen under the guidance of Philippe Zacharie.
His meeting with Joseph Delattre at the academythe latter had founded.Delattre became his mentor and introduced him towork "sur le motif" en plein air.
He assiduously frequented the Cercle de l'ArtArt and befriended the big names on the Rouen scene (Robert Pinchon, Pierre Dumont).Pinchon, Pierre Dumont).Narcisse Guilbert is one of the most prominentPostimpressionist.He is distinguished by his very clean brushstrokes. Heexcels in landscapes of the Seine valley, views of the port of Rouen,the cliffs of Étretat and floral still lifes.His work evolves from gentle impressionisma more structured, almost Fauvist style of painting, where color and texturetexture take precedence over pure drawing.
