Scene Of An Opium Den Carved In Wood (1930's)
Made by the residents of the T’ou-Sé-Wé orphanage, run by French Jesuit missionaries in Shanghai, these figurines immortalizing many scenes of daily Chinese life in the 1930s were the subject of a public exhibition and a book in 2014 (see last two photos).
