Rare and imposing Tibetan flint purse (also called a mechag or chuck muck), made of leather adorned with repoussé silver plates, inlaid with turquoise and coral set in silver mounts.
Filigree, scroll, and fish motifs.
A round silver amulet adorns the end of the strap.
This leather purse is designed to hold a flint and a combustible material. The flint is struck against the iron blade, producing a spark that ignites on contact with the material. The top has a brass loop for attaching it to the leather strap. In good used condition, entirely original.
Dimensions: 17.5 x 10.5 cm (15 cm to the silver amulet).
