Large Writing Case With Domed Lid In Violet Wood Veneer, Late 17th/early 18th Century
An important case with a slightly domed lid, probably intended as a writing desk and letter tray, in violet wood veneer and inlaid decoration with a central rosette motif, the arrangement of the wood veins composing an antique "velum" shape.
Four interior compartments, one of which can be opened by sliding the dividing wall.
Four small raved feet, perhaps added later. Small cracks, rare knocks. Stains documented in photo. Missing hook and key. Overall very good condition. Wonderful patina.
