French School, Portrait Of A Young Man, Three Pencils On Paper Technique, 19th Century

Portrait on paper of a young man made "with three pencils": black stone, red chalk, highlights of white chalk.

The work was produced in the 19th century, we propose a more precise dating around the years 1820-1830, on the basis of stylistic criteria that link the subject to a romantic physiognomy: intelligent and intrepid gaze, turned towards the outside of the field of representation to evoke a form of virtù, a capacity and a will to act.
The undone shirt collar, the messy locks of hair, contribute to the dynamism of the subject disposed to action, coexisting with the placid perfection of the clearly antiquing lineaments: full lips, classical Greek nose, sculptural eyebrows.
This beautiful portrait, undoubtedly ideal or idealized, is therefore also the portrait of a psychological disposition in phase with the heroic models of the time, particularly in literature.
Excellent state of preservation.
Two minimal stains on the extreme periphery.
