French School, Landscape With Cows, Oil On Panel, 19th Century
A hilly landscape with cattle, the animals occupying the foreground, while the rest of the composition fades into a beautiful, atmospheric, bluish perspective, reminiscent of the "composed landscapes" inherited from the 17th-century Roman school. Two small architectural elements are located to the right of the composition. A beautiful, dramatic sky is rendered with great luminosity. Some cracks and thinning of the paint layer are documented in the photographs. Presented in a lovely three-sided frame of wood and gilt stucco.
