"spring," A 19th-century Enhanced Engraving (ca. 1810–20) Depicting A Romantic Theme, With An Antique Frame And Glass
A color-enhanced engraving from the early 19th century, c. 1810–1820, depicting two young lovers dressed in the fashion of the late First Empire and early Restoration periods.
The inscription on the print reads:
"Spring
Flowers last only a moment
Love lasts a lifetime"
Beyond the deeply romantic charm of this piece, its appeal also lies in its perfectly preserved condition after more than two centuries: the frame (likely made of blackened pear wood), the backing, glass (lovely and irregular with air bubbles), are all original and have survived with no damage other than the patina of time.
Note the presence of an old label on the glass, also from the 19th century, likely from a collection or auction.
