Kilim Adiyaman - Anatolia. Circa 1880. 130 X 83 Cm
Now that's pretty! It's a kilim from Adiyaman in southeastern Anatolia. The hues are almost unreal, with coppery ochre, golden yellow, brown ochre and dense, saturated indigo blue. The harmony is prodigious, creating an object that is both delicate and refined.
Woven wool on wool, the weaving is a marvel of regularity and precision. Certain motifs are embroidered on the thinnest horizontal bands, forming the motif of the eye against the evil eye, a symbol linked to protection. We can also distinguish series of motifs linked to nomadism, life and fertility.
Exclusively vegetal hues of great purity, deep and luminous.
This piece was probably never made, and must have been kept in a chest. Its state of preservation is impeccable.
Circa 1880
Dim: 130 x 83 cm
A real little treasure, a rare and authentic antique piece. To look at it, it seems that time has stood still.
