PELISSE
In dark green wool, with eighteen white braids at the front each adorned with five tin half-bell buttons, closing straight at the front. Pelisse edged around with a 9 mm wide white woven galloon and black sheepskin roughly 6 cm wide. The same galloon also covers the two back seams at the shoulders. At the back, at the bottom, eight half-bell buttons are sewn in a triangle formation. Collar covered with black sheepskin, 10 cm high, with a double white cord closure at the front base. Pointed cuffs covered with black sheepskin. Inner lining in ecru canvas, unlined sleeves.
France.
Late 19th-century production.
Good condition with repairs, damages, and restorations. Pelisse was restored by master tailor Christian Colmont in the 1980s, with replacement of fur, inner lining, and some braids.
NOTE:
During the creation of the four Regiments of the Guard d'Honneur, archives and contemporary testimonies mention that many guards had their uniforms and equipment made locally in the provinces. These productions resulted in a wide variety of fabrics, colors, and materials; the qualities obtained were varied, sometimes average. The outcome in the regiments was significant disparity.
ICONOGRAPHY:
Pelisse reproduced in Monsieur Alain Pigeard's book "L'Armée Napoléonienne" published in 1993, page 246, JN collection. Published in the book by Messieurs Vincent Bourgeot and Alain Pigeard: "L'Encyclopédie des Uniformes Napoléoniens" published in 2003, volume 2, page 455, H&H collection.
