UNIFORM OF LÉON JEAN-PIERRE DE LAPÉROUSE WAR SCHOOL'S UNREGISTERED DRAGON CAPTAIN, Third Republic - First World War. 33956

Set comprising a kepi, tunic and straight pants.
Semi-polo type kepi, turban and cap in madder-colored cloth, black cloth headband, silver rank brackets, regimental number masked by the staff grenade embroidered on a removable piece of cloth sewn in the upper part.
Silver ribbed line chinstrap, held in place by two smooth silver-plated brass buttons. Leather visor, varnished and blackened on the outside, and dressed with rectified leather on the inside, edged with a blackened lacquered calfskin saddle-stitched rush.b Sweatband in supple blackened leather. Interior in black satin.

Tunic model 1898 second suit in fine black drape, fastened at the front with nine silver half-spherical buttons without imprint. High collar in white drap, adorned with black drap tabs cut into braces at the front, flaming bomb embroidered in silver sequins and cannetille. Chest and hip pockets with straight flaps. Two clasps at the foot of the collar. Sleeve lapels topped with silver ribbed rank braids and a white cloth placket highlighted by three small module model buttons.
Sleeve epaulet and braid attachments in silver ribbed lines. On the back, two false pockets with soubise tabs underlined by model buttons. In the right wallet pocket, tailor's name tag, dated 1907 as a lieutenant. Lined in black Chinese satin.

Straight pants in madder wool cloth, on the vertical outer seam, wide black stripe. Brass buttons, with "20th dragons".

Kepi in good condition, sweatband partially disjointed at forehead. One rank soutache similarly partly untucked.
Tunic and pants, in very good condition.



Léon Jean Pierre Jacques Théobald Dalmas de Lapérouse
1873 ( Ajaccio ) - 1952 ( Paris )
sub-lieutenant in September 1898, lieutenant in September 1900 in the 11th dragoon regiment, lieutenant Porte-étendard in the 27th dragoon (1906-1912), captain on June 24, 1912 in the 29th dragoon.
Assigned as a staff officer to the Beaudemoulin cavalry division at the start of the war, then to the Brugère infantry division. Subsequently assigned to the French mission to the Belgian army, then to the Grand Quartier Général des Armées du Nord et du Nord-Est.
Retired in 1923 on grounds of non-activity due to a service-acquired invalidity of 25%, he subsequently devoted himself to a vigorous literary career. Appointed general secretary of the Missions Catholiques pavilion at the Exposition Coloniale in 1930, he is the grandson of Major General Theobald Dalmas de Lapérouse ( 1814-1903 ).
