Large 50cm Globe By Larochette Et Bonnefont
Large 50cm diameter globe signed "Globe terrestre 1m 60c circonférence par Ch. Larochette et L. Bonnefont... Silver medals at major exhibitions. Edition Naud-Evrard. Institut géographique de Paris Ch. Delagrave".
The large 50cm globe is mounted in a brass circle divided into four times 90 degrees, surmounted by a copper hour disc divided into two times twelve hours and the whole set on a brass table also divided into four times 90 degrees supported by three steel arches. The globe measures approximately 90dm high by 58cm in diameter.
In 1867, Charles Larochette and Louis Bonnefont produced a large 50cm-diameter teaching globe: chosen to embody the quality of French geographical production, it was awarded a medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition.
Reductions were made and distributed in France, often for educational purposes.
The present globe is therefore one of the largest marketed at the time.
Ancient break at the equator, restored without missing; some wear marks particularly on the Asian continent but otherwise good and fine overall condition for this rather rare globe.
