Lot Of 5 Cameos 19th Century Shell Grand Tour Portrait Italy Naples Neptune Cupid Mythology
Lot of 5 19th-century and possibly earlier cameos, made from shells, very often Cassis Madagascarienis or similar.
The smallest round profile is different because it is carved from mother-of-pearl.
These cameos generally come from Torre del Gréco, a place near Naples where they were made as early as the 17th century. They were brought back by tourists and artists on the Grand Tour.
The cameo depicting Cupid and Venus is monogrammed on the reverse.
The cameo depicting Neptune is identified on the reverse by old writing that has faded slightly over time.
I bought them in the same collection and do not wish to separate them.
Their size: between 2 and 4 cm
Price of shipping in France, by registered colissimo with insurance: 20 €.
