Jean Jacques MORVAN is an official naval painter, born into a family of sailors in Morlaix on January 7, 1928.
He entered the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in 1945.
He was part of the Second School of Paris movement.
He participated throughout his life in several exhibitions in France and around the world.
I'll mention just a few, as the list is long:
- 1947: Salon des moins de 30 ans;
- 1951: galerie la Boétie in Paris;
- 1952, 1954: Salon de la Jeune Peinture in Paris;
- 1952 and from 1954 to 1958: Salon des Indépendants;
- 1954: Salon d'Automne;
- 1957: Paris: les peintres témoins de leur temps;
- 1961: galerie Bellechasse in Paris and musée des Jacobins in Morlaix;
- 1962: 1st exhibition in New-York etc.
In 1973, he exhibited in Tokyo, but all his paintings were sold and remained in Japan.
In 1974, he was awarded a gold medal at the Salon de la Marine and a gold medal at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1978.
In 1980, he won the Sandoz Grand Prix.
He travels extensively and even exhibits in Cameroon, where the Yaoundé museum owns one of his paintings.
He is featured in numerous museums, including the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, and the Beaux-Arts museums of Brest, Besançon, Orléans, Pau, Morlaix, Tours, Strasbourg and Mulhouse.
Abroad, it is exhibited at the Djakerta Museum of Fine Arts, in Madrid, Lausanne etc...
