Bernard Lignon (1928–2017) Paris, Montmartre, Place Du Tertre, 1952 Large Oil On Canvas

Artist: Bernard Lignon (1928-1917)
Large oil-on-canvas painting from the School of Paris, signed by B. LIGNON (Bernard Lignon, 1928–1917) and dated 1952, depicting a panoramic view of the Place du Tertre in Paris’s Montmartre district. The work is presented in its elegant original “Montparnasse” frame, made of carved wood with a patina finish. Very good overall condition. Dimensions: 97 cm x 84 cm / stretcher: 73 cm x 60 cm

Bernard Lignon was a French painter born in Montpellier in 1928. An Expressionist artist, his works were highly successful, particularly those depicting the streets of Paris and Venice, as well as his horse races. The quality of his work allowed him to forge friendships with figures as diverse as César, Yves Montand, Lino Ventura, and Baron Empain.
In the 1950s, he was one of the most prominently represented artists at the Galerie Paul Petrides, located at 53 rue La Boétie in Paris. He exhibited worldwide, from Japan to the United States, and sold his paintings to figures such as the Aga Khan, the King of Morocco, and Hollywood stars like Yul Brynner and Ava Gardner.
