Description:

Tyrolean sideboard with chamfered edges, in painted softwood, dating from around 1820.
The piece features a compact structure with a front consisting of two paneled doors, framed by simple and proportionate moldings. The surface is entirely decorated with casein paint featuring stylized floral motifs, centered on painted flower vases within rectangular panels. The color scheme is dominated by a blue-green background with overlapping glazes, now visibly weathered by use and time. The chamfers are decorated with a sinuous motif of vertical floral tendrils, while the slightly projecting top surface is finished with a simple linear band. The original wrought-iron hardware, including the hinges and shaped handles, contributes to the piece’s historical significance. The painted Tyrolean sideboard is a piece of furniture of great rarity: wardrobes and chests were more commonly built, serving as essential storage elements in Tyrolean homes. Sideboards were found only in the homes of wealthy families. Authentic examples that have survived to the present day are increasingly scarce, and finding an original one requires experience, attention (and luck!).
In this specific case, the compact depth adds further value, making the piece easy to place even in small spaces without sacrificing the decorative presence and typical character of antique Tyrolean furniture.
