Piedmontese Walnut Sideboard

Piedmontese walnut sideboard
Antique Piedmontese walnut cabinet, an expression of late‑17th‑century woodworking, featuring a robust construction, balanced proportions, and handcrafted details that reflect the evolution of early Subalpine furniture.

Technical details:

  • Period: second half of the 1600s
  • Origin: Piedmont
  • Wood: Walnut
  • Height: 112 cm (44.1 in)
  • Width: 134 cm (52.8 in)
  • Depth: 57 cm (22.4 in)

Description:
Piedmontese sideboard from the second half of the 17th century, a solid and compact piece made of walnut with a warm, slightly amber finish typical of Subalpine production of the period. The structure, with double doors, features essential lines reflecting a fully Baroque taste focused on functionality and restrained decoration.

The front is dominated by two large carved panels, each adorned with a radiating star motif, incised with deep grooves that create a pronounced sculptural effect.

The door frame is articulated with simple geometric bands, while the sides retain smooth panels bordered by mouldings. The base, solid and slightly projecting, stands on console‑type feet with small period‑shaped outlines.

Both the back and the interior feature hand‑forged ironwork — hinges and locks with visible hammered nails. The top board, made from a single wide plank, shows the natural patina acquired over time.

Standard interventions carried out on all our furniture:

– Structural restoration: replacement of small missing parts, closure of any cracks on the backboard, consolidation of weakened areas, inspection and repair of ironwork.
– Thorough anti‑woodworm treatment.
– Interior cleaning and sanitisation.
– Exterior finishing with natural beeswax.
– Interior finishing with shellac, a natural alcohol‑based varnish.

Customisations:

On request, it is possible to define:
– the desired level of restoration;
– the customisation of interiors (addition of hanging bars, shelves, dividers, etc.).
