Gabie's Diana depicts the goddess Diana (Artemis to the Greeks) adjusting her cloak (palla) with a fibula on her right shoulder. She is wearing a short chiton, suitable for hunting, and sandals. The intricate, detailed drapery is the central element of this composition, which blends elegance and movement.
In the 19th century, the model was extremely popular with art foundries. Enthusiasts collected these reductions to assert their humanist culture at a time when the Antique was once again the major model and the height of cultural refinement.
