Pair Of White Renaissance Marble Pilasters

Very rare and exceptional pair of white marble pilasters with low-relief carved decoration of two torchères or candelabras in the Antique style.

The tripod base is in the form of a lion's paw, topped by a long shaft adorned with acanthus leaves. The upper part is composed of a Medici-shaped vase supporting a basket-shaped bowl from which flames escape. Decorated on both sides with ribbons and pearl garlands.

Northern Italy, probably Venetian or Tuscan, 16th century.

Virtually unobtainable on today's art market, this pair of pilasters, most probably from a door frame in a Venetian or Tuscan palace and typical of early 16th-century Italian Renaissance production, is of remarkable quality. It rivals the examples held in Europe's most prestigious collections - in Paris and London.

Never before presented on the art market and therefore totally unprecedented, these pilasters in solid white marble are offered exclusively by Murmure des Arts.

Inspired by ancient Roman decorations, they can now be easily used as sellets to decorate the entrance to a château. Both elements are stable; the second, however, requires reinforcement at the foot to secure it perfectly.
