Silver Reliquary Containing A Relic Of Saint Gervais, 18th Century
A rare silver reliquary containing a relic of Saint Gervais protected under beveled glass. The fragment is affixed to a red fabric background surrounded by gilt paper. Below, a handwritten label in Latin reads “S. Gervasy m” for “Sanctus Gervasy Martyris,” meaning “Saint Gervais, Martyr.” The edge of the mount is finely chased with a dotted frieze. On the back, the piece is still sealed with the red wax of the ecclesiastical seal, adorned with a buffalo, guaranteeing the integrity of the relic.
