Mandarin Hat From The Qing Imperial Court, China, 19th Century

A rare and authentic black velvet winter hat belonging to a Qing Imperial Court official. The domed crown is topped with a bronze bead, encircled by two filigree bands holding red silk fringes that cascade down the edge. The bead at the top formerly indicated the official's rank. Currently gilded in color, this hat was undoubtedly worn by a civil mandarin. The item is sold with its custom-made plexiglass display stand. China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), 19th century. Height: 13.5 cm. Length: 28.5 cm. Width: 25.5 cm. Approximate interior dimensions: 17 x 19 cm. (Very good overall condition. Note: some wear and holes. Interior fabric is faded).
