Rare Austro-hungarian Dussack 16th Century

This sword is a DussackAustro-Hungarian, dating from the mid-16th century. Strictly speaking, the Dussack is a rustic saber used in the area of Germanic influence, and especially Austria and part of Hungary. In the 15th century and until the middle of the 16th century, it consisted of a simple curved blade the end of the tang being bent to form a knuckle bow to protect the hand. Wooden and even leather models were used for training purposes. From the 1530s-1540s, these primitive sabers had fallen into disuse, except for fencing, an evolution took place. Genuine guards appeared, becoming more and more refined and as we approach the final years of the 16th century. The blades, now of much better quality than those of the primitive came from Styria (Austria) or Solingen.
BLADE : This is a strong, slightly curved, single-edged blade. Counter-edge on the last 22 cm near the tip. On each side, 2 fine fullerss surround a larger groove. On the outside, 18 cm from the hilt, 3 star-shaped hallmarks with a circle in the center (hallmarks of this type are found on 2 swords dated 1570). marks of oxydation usual on a weapon of this period.
Blade length = 74 cmwidth near hilt 3.2 cm, thickness near hilt 6.8 mm
GUARD : this is an elegant guard, consisting of a large protective ring and two counter-curved quillons in the plane of the blade. The quillons end in a spiral pattern. Thelower quillon extends forming a knuckle bow, ending near the pommel.
POMMEL : This pommel  is difficult to individualize, since the grip gradually widens and is topped by a steel plate which is the pommel in the strict sense. One end of this pommel is worked in the shape of a spiral, symmetrical to that of the knuckle bow. We can observe an almost identical pommel on a Swiss sword no. 130 from the Charles Boissonnas collection(available online on  Gallica)
GRIP  : it is enterely made of iron. it widens from the center of the cross guard to the opposite end.It is decorated with longitudinal grooves and ribs.
In conclusion, this is an uncommon sword, in original condition, never restored,  with a beautiful patina of use. It will become  an important important pieces in a Haute Epoque(Middle Age)  collection.
