Louis Vergetas born in Paris in 1882. A student of Fernand Cormon at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, and also at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs, he exhibited from the 1920s at the Salon des Artistes Français, and a few years later at the Salon des Artistes Normands in Rouen. Alongside his career as a painter, he completed several illustration projects, notably Les croix de bois and Le réveil des morts, based on novels by Roland Dorgeles. After the Second World War, Louis Vergetas settled in Elbeuf, Normandy, where he organized a painting salon, entitled Salon d'Automne.

From his post-war period, we know a remarkable series devoted to beach scenes. In our painting, Louis Vergetas captures an intimate moment in the shelter of a tent open to the sea. Tranquil gestures convey the softness of a Normandy beach day, between fresh wind and golden light.
