Henry de Waroquier was a self-taught artist working in painting, drawing, engraving, sculpture, and ceramics. He exhibited regularly from the 1910s onward in major Parisian exhibitions, notably the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Tuileries, where his work attracted attention for its restrained and monumental character. His work was also shown in several important Parisian galleries between the two World Wars, particularly the Bernheim-Jeune Gallery and the Druet Gallery, which contributed to his recognition among collectors and institutions. His powerful style, drawing on references to Romanesque art and archaic forms, set him apart within the artistic scene of his time.
A pivotal stay in India between 1926 and 1927 profoundly influenced his work, which was henceforth imbued with spiritual and humanist reflection. From the 1930s onward, Henry de Waroquier benefited from numerous solo and institutional exhibitions, both in France and abroad. His work has entered the collections of major museums such as the Musée National d'Art Moderne, the Musée d'Orsay, and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, as well as various regional fine arts museums. Retrospective exhibitions, organized after the Second World War and until the end of his life, confirm the importance of his work and his unique position, outside the avant-garde movements, yet deeply rooted in a meditative and universal approach.
