Antique French Silvered Alto Saxophone - Early XXth Century - Type Couesnon Lis26sax001

French Silvered Antique Alto Saxophone - Early 20th Century - Couesnon Type LIS26SAX001

French-made antique alto saxophone, dating from the late 19th or very early 20th century (circa 1890-1910).

Silvered metal instrument showing a fine period patina.
The old-fashioned mechanism, with drop-shaped keys and wire bell guard, is characteristic of French production of this period, most likely from the Couesnon workshops or a similar manufacturer (Thibouville-Lamy type).

No apparent marks, only an engraved number "698", typical of so-called "stencil" instruments or unsigned production.

Dimensions:

  • Length (without mouthpiece): approx. 65 cm
  • Diameter of bell: approx. 11 cm

Condition:
Instrument complete but not overhauled.
Traces of use, light oxidation and wear consistent with age.
Pads and adjustments to be provided for musical use.
Some minor malfunctions no doubt to be corrected concerning certain keys, for all that, everything seems operational

To note: This type of saxophone is generally tuned in old pitch (High Pitch), making it more intended for collection, decoration or specialized use.

Nice collector's item, representative of the beginnings of saxophone instrument making in France.
