Pair Of Victorian English Balloon Chairs - Solid Carved Mahogany 19th Century

Structure in solid mahogany, carved and moulded. Traditional cabinetmaking joinery throughout.

Open back of circular, shaped form, characteristic of the model. Relief-carved decoration with leafy scrolls and volutes to the cresting rail and at the base of the back. Trapezoidal seat with shaped front rail. Curved front legs of cabriole form. Shaped rear legs in sabre form.

Traditional upholstery on crossed jute webbing (documented restoration dating from the 1990s–2000s). Covered in ivory corduroy velvet.

Excellent structural condition overall. Age-related patina to the woodwork. Minor chip or small loss of material at the base of one rear leg, not affecting stability. Very slight marks and traces of use to the textile covering.
