Designer Snail Table Lamp by Marzio Cecchi, Murano glass and wood, Italy circa 1960
Modernist table lamp in a naturalistic shape depicting a snail. Italian work from the 1960s. Designed by Marzio Cecchi and produced by Dimensione Fuoco. The piece is incised with the artist's signature on the wooden base.
The animal's body is carved from solid wood with a visible, contrasting grain, depicting the stretched foot and the head with raised tentacles.
It is topped with a large shell that acts as a light diffuser, made of Murano glass using the "pulegoso" technique (a thick glass with a honeycombed structure and micro-bubble inclusions). The decor displays a beautiful range of warm amber, brown, and orange hues.
Very good condition. Displays minor micro-traces of use inherent to its age. Original wiring is in working order. Period fabric-covered twisted cable (please note that the textile has become slightly dry/stiff over the years due to natural wear).

Note on the designer Marzio Cecchi:
Born near Florence in 1940, Marzio Cecchi grew up in a creative family environment; his mother, Giulia Carla Cecchi, was a renowned figure in Florentine haute couture. After graduating from the University of Architecture in Florence, he quickly established himself as a creator who oversaw his projects in their entirety. A multidisciplinary and avant-garde creative, both an architect and a designer, he passed away prematurely in an accident in New York in 1990. He leaves behind a singular body of work, rich in pieces that are often unique and highly sought after by collectors on the design market today.
