Crespina-shaped Plate, 28 X 7cm. Montelupo 17th Century.
Artist: Ateliers Du Montelupo Fiorentino
A splendid 17th-century Montelupo Fiorentino majolica plate, of the decorative type commonly known as "harlequinate." The plate is characterized by its Crespina shape, with double pods. This is a rarer modeling for the Montelupo factory, based on contemporary Deruta or Faenza models.
The male subject, dressed in clothing inspired by popular models of the 17th century, is depicted with the unusual iconography of a covered hand, which could evoke nobility, dignity, and self-control, or allude to membership in a specific order or secret brotherhood.
The plate is in excellent condition and shows no visible restorations.
Its diameter is 28 cm and the base height is 7 cm.
A certificate of authenticity is included with the sale.
