A Small, Rare Coin Cabinet With Carthusian Inlay Work.
An interesting coin cabinet featuring panels and woodwork with Carthusian inlays from the late 15th century. Woodwork of this type was in vogue from the second half of the 15th century to the first half of the 16th century across a vast area of central Italy, including Umbria, Marche, and Tuscany, crafted by master woodworkers specializing in the construction of monumental liturgical and monastic furnishings.
The wood and panels that make up the structure, the pilasters, the drop-down door, and the paneling of the small drawers are ancient sections of Carthusian elements dating to around the late 15th and begin of 16th century.
It cannot be ruled out that this is a specific ancient prototype restored in subsequent centuries.
Dimensions: approximately 36 cm high x 38 cm long x 20 cm deep.
A certificate of authenticity is included with the sale.
