6 Ceramic Tiles. Kütahya. Anatolia. Mid-20th Century. 60 X 40 Cm
Like a bursting bouquet, this complete set of six earthenware tiles originates from Kütahya in Northwest Turkey. This original composition is signed by the master craftsman Altın Çini, under the title "Vedat," meaning "Love" or "romantic feeling." It is, of course, a unique, entirely hand-painted piece. Kütahya ceramics have been known since the 16th century. Ottoman, Persian, Arab, and European influences are evident. They were sometimes intended to adorn imperial palaces and religious sites. Even today, artisans continue to reproduce these traditional techniques. A multitude of stylized flowers can be seen, such as what appear to be tulips, carnations, and perhaps daisies (blue flowers with red centers). A frame surrounds the scene, composed of floral friezes and arabesque motifs. Mid-20th century. 20 x 20 cm each. 60 x 40 cm assembled. Very good condition, two small chips on the outer edge. Perhaps suitable for framing. Laurent, Beauty of Kilims
