Superb collector's silk fabric richly embroidered with gold and silver threads, a complex composition of interlacing flower design. The design appears very typical from 17th cty Italian Baroque silks and maintains perfect vertical symmetry, a direct reference to Renaissance taste. Color harmonies used—blue, red, silver, and gold on a cream or ivory background—are particularly refined.
Dimensions: 94 x 56 cm.
Framed under glass for the preservation of silk, which is inevitably worn and slightly "burned" in places due its age.
The frame is simple and made of light wood. No missing pieces or tears.
The original embroidered border around the fabric suggests that this is indeed its original size.
The design has no religious reference and could very simply have been a centerpiece or the covering of a precious cabinet.
