19th Cty Morrocan Folk Art Ceramic Pitcher, Called Ghoraf
Artist: Ateliers Céramiques De Fez, Maroc
MOROCCAN CERAMIC
Traditional Moroccan pitcher called GHORAF
The body shape is straight with a handle that is also very vertical and simple
FEZ 19th century
Ghoraf ceramic pitcher with stylized geometric polychrome decoration made in "high-fired" technique (the shape of the clay piece is fired at the same time as its glaze and decoration, allowing no corrections for the ceramist and limiting them to a reduced range of colors. The colors are obtained using metallic oxides (blue from cobalt oxide, yellow from antimony oxide, brown-gray-black from manganese oxide, and green from copper oxide. On some of these ceramics, touches of red minium were added after firing from the 19th century onwards).
The vertical lines of alternating and tight colors with dots on the body are called the 'centipede decoration'.
Condition:
No restoration, some original minor glazing defects and those related to daily and repeated use.
Dimensions:
21 cm height and 13 cm diameter
