Embroidery Of The Annunciation
A metal-thread embroidery depicting the Annunciation, created between the 16th and 17th centuries. Probably taken from a clerical garment, the Annunciation scene shows the angel Gabriel facing the Virgin Mary, whom he blesses with his right hand. In his other hand he holds a lily, a Marian symbol. The Virgin, for her part, is seated with her hands clasped and a book on her lap. Rays of light stream down from the upper edge towards her. The scene is set within a loggia against a Tuscan landscape.
