Jean-pierre Laurent, Active In The 20th Century, The Pont Marie
At the opposite corner of the same Rue des Deux-Ponts, the old building and the tavern "Au Franc Pinot" still stand.
The Rue des Deux-Ponts is so named because of the two bridges located at either end of it: the Pont Marie, towards the Right Bank of the Seine, and the Pont de la Tournelle towards the Left Bank.
This famous Pont-Marie has been a great source of inspiration for artists.
Our website also features "Le Pont-Marie," a 1933 watercolor by Héran-Chaband, in which the Pont-Marie is seen from the quayside.
This panel, painted on hardboard around 1950-1960, is signed by Jean-Pierre Laurent, who does not appear to be the same artist known for his numerous watercolors that frequently appear on the art market.
We have thrzz paintings by this fine, unjustly overlooked artist, besides this one, a View of the Quay and the Pont Alexandre III in Automn and a View of Antibes.
