Drawings For An Architectural Competition, By Nouël, 1880-1881
They are those of a student architect competing in a Concours1880-81, as evidenced by the official dry-stamp in the upper right-hand corner of each piece.in the upper right-hand corner of each of these two plates. The name of the future architect is written in ink in the upper right-hand corner: "Nouël"
Note the precision of the line and the importance given to thethe orientation of light on the arches, the author having taken care to lightento lighten the line where the light illuminates the architecture.
The third drawing for this same project is executed in a similar technique ; it represents the complete façade of the classical building vwith arcades and ionic columns on the ground floor, on the upper floor, windows with alternting semicircular or triangular pediments anc Corinthian colums.
The upper part of the plate, which bears the stamp and the artis's name is missing, but this is a drawing by the same hand for the 1880 competition.
Precious testimony to an era when highly elaborate architectural drawing was considered an art form in its own right.
