Jan Dirksz Both (Utrecht, c.1618-1652) is one of the most important artists of the second generation of Dutch Italianists, like Nicolaes Berchem, having worked in Rome in the years 1635-40. This artist left a considerable production in Italy and was very appreciated by collectors. He particularly liked the lights of the sunset, the representations of peasants in landscapes of ruins and the dark and mysterious foregrounds as we find in our painting.
Jan Both (Utrecht 1618-1652), attributed to Italianate Landscape with Ruins and Figure.
The painting is on its original canvas.
The frame has been restored.
