The Imperial Family In Medallions, Sèvres Biscuits, Jules-constant Peyre, 1867
The medallions depict, in profile, Emperor Napoleon I, shown in classical style and with a laureate's wreath, at the top center; Emperor Napoleon III (1808-1873) on the right; and his wife, Empress Eugénie (1826-1920), on the left.
The Prince Imperial, Louis Napoleon Bonaparte (1856-1879), the only son of Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie, is shown below. The medallions measure 8 cm in diameter, and the one depicting the Prince Imperial is 6 cm in diameter.
The set bears the signatures of Jules-Constant Peyre, sculptor at the Sèvres factory, active between 1811 and 1871 and of Count Emilien de Nieuwerkerke (1811-1892), sculptor, collector and high civil servant, who was also director of the museums of France between 1850 and 1852.
This set, in perfect condition in its period frame, is datable to 1867.
