Louis De Boullogne (1654-1733), Le Déluge, French School, 17th Century, Oil On Canvas

Louis de Boullogne (1654-1733), painter, draftsman and engraver, just like his older brother Bon de Boullogne (1649-1717). First prize in Rome in 1673 with the Passage du Rhin, he was admitted to the Academy in 1681 on presentation of his Augustus order to close the doors of the temple of Janus (Amiens museum). He succeeded Coypel in 1725 as the King's First Painter, he was one of Louis XIV's official painter and decorator, notably for the apartments at Versailles, the Royal Chapel and the Trianon. Painter of history, author of numerous mythological and religious compositions preserved in museums, he is one of the great representatives of classical decorative painting of the end of the 17th century.

The Flood, subject represented here, is taken from the Book of Genesis (Gen 7,1-8,22). It is about a study of small size undoubtedly for a much more ambitious table of proportions.
The work is on its original canvas, beautiful original frame in good condition.
