Two Sawfish Sostrums On A Pedestal, Objects Of Curiosity

The rostrum is the bony extension of the sawfish's snout. It can measure up to two meters and have about twenty teeth on each side.
The scientific name for the rostrum is pristis zijsron. Often found in cabinets of curiosities, these objects have become rare.

We present here a pair of these two pendant rostra, which are practically identical, they have been mounted and are complete. One has 19 x 2 teeth and the other 16 x 2 teeth.
One of the two has a slight loss of skin on the back, but this does not detract from the overall aesthetic appeal of the object.
