The Arts, Ewer And Its Basin By Jules Brateau
Superb ewer and its pewter basin signed Jules Brateau (1844-1923), allegory of the Arts. Jules Brateau, sculptor, jeweler, pewter potter was the initiator of the revival of pewter work at the end of the 19th century. He obtained with this work inspired by the Renaissance and of great finesse of execution the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889. A model is kept at the Musée d'Orsay, another at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts, New York.
