The Middle Eastern Family Portrait Dates From 1907; Signature To Be Deciphered (pastel)
Artist: not certain, see the photo of the signature in the lower right corner (I think it reads Maurice Levy dated 1907 ). Son of the painter Juliette Lévis[2], Maurice Lévis was born on November 11, 1860, in the 9th arrondissement of Paris. He was a student of the painters Henri Harpignies, Jules Lefebvre, and Pierre Billet. Through them, he was influenced by the Barbizon School, academic art, and naturalism, and then discovered the Pont-Aven region[5]. He traveled to Africa and the Indian Ocean, painting works that place him within the Orientalist movement. *If you think you see the name of another artist?
