Bryan Ingham (1936–1997) Saint Ives, Cornwall (collage)

Bryan Ingham: Having recently settled in Cornwall, Ingham broke away from the London art scene to immerse himself completely in the landscapes of St. Ives. In the middle of August 1970, he spent his summer studying and reinterpreting the masterpieces of his predecessor (such as the view of Mousehole). He fused still life and seascape through rigorous geometrization. He abandoned traditional painting to perfect his technique of collages and pencil drawings. He used raw materials (brown and kraft paper) that he scraped and layered to create relief effects. His works from August 1970 abandon bright colors to capture the local light through shades of ochre, sandy browns, and slate gray.
