Biography: René Lichtman, born in Paris in December 1937, is a Holocaust survivor turned active activist, artist and filmmaker based in Detroit, USA. As a "hidden child", he survived the German occupation of France with the help of a Catholic family. His key commitments include:
- He is a co-founder of the World Federation of Jewish Children Survivors of the Holocaust. Residing in Detroit, he is a member of Detroit Jews for Justice and has received honors for his activism, such as the Justice Warrior award. [
- He co-founded the Newsreel collective and helped make the activist film Finally Got the News (1970). He also pursues a career as an abstract painter.
